NSAI Volunteer Local Chapter Coordinators play a key role in supporting local songwriters, creating connection and growth, and enriching the creative community, providing support and resources for those with a similar passion for songwriting.

Eligibility
  • Each Local Chapter must have two Chapter Coordinators
    • If you are looking to open a new chapter, try to have a co-coordinator in mind (they must apply too).
    • If you don't have someone in mind, reach out to our Director of Chapters.
  • Local Chapters are required to have a minimum of four in-person meetings per year.
    • Coordinators are welcome to host more in-person meeting than the minimum required, at their discretion.
    • In-person meetings must take place in a public location approved by the Director of Chapters in advance.
    • Meetings CANNOT be held in a private home or residence.
    • All meeting locations are required to provide a COI (Certificate of Insurance).
    • Additional meetings beyond the four required are permitted to be either online or in-person, or hybrid (both). For any online or hybrid meetings, coordinators are required to use the NSAI provided Zoom link and host code.
  • Coordinators are to maintain the correct time, location, and content of their Chapter Meetings on the NSAI Chapter Website Page and with local NSAI members.
    • Details on when and where meetings will be held must be approved by Chapter Director, determined, advertised, and listed correctly and in advance of meeting date.
  • Monthly paperwork must be kept current and turned in to NSAI within 2 (two) weeks after meeting is held.
    • Coordinator Resources provides a link for easy submission for the following documents:
      • Attendance Sheets
      • Song Consent Forms
      • Song Form Submissions
      • Special Event Requests (as needed)
  • Must have an active NSAI membership 
  • Must have a complete NSAI Member Profile, including:
    • Biography
    • Picture
    • 2 song samples (either uploaded digital files or links)
  • Must have experience utilizing NSAI services and site, including:
    • Mentor Sessions
    • Song Evaluations (minimum of 3 completed)
    • Familiarity with Member Directory, Content Library, and other NSAI online resources
    • Completion of the Certification Course

We kindly ask all Coordinators to provide the following information:

  1. Do you own or work in a music-related business? (e.g., studio, music education, production, music store, entertainment venue, etc.)
  2. Are you a member of any other songwriting organization? If yes, do you have a position or responsibilities within that songwriting organization?

 

We have found that the most successful coordinators have the following qualities:
  • Organized
  • Leadership capabilities
  • Kind and personable
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of personalities and age groups
  • Appreciation for a wide range of genres and songwriting styles
  • Time availability to dedicate to bettering the chapter through consistent communication with chapter members, fellow coordinators, and NSAI's Director of Chapters
  • Basic knowledge of the Music Business and industry terminology
A Chapter Coordinator serves as a liaison between NSAI and Chapter Members. NSAI Chapter Coordinators coach new members through their initial NSAI Membership, as well as promote benefits to potential new members to further grow their Chapter.
Chapter Coordinators are responsible for hosting regular meetings that follow the NSAI guidelines.
  • Chapter Meetings will consist of updating the Chapter on upcoming NSAI events, local opportunities, engaging members with Lesson Plans written and provided by NSAI, and facilitating Song Feedback Sessions. The duration of chapter meetings tends to last between two (2) to three (3) hours.
  • Lesson Plans: Coordinators are expected to follow the lesson plans provided by NSAI that have been specifically authored by a select group of professional instructors to develop the creative writing skills among the Chapter’s songwriters. You will have access to these lesson plans, located on the NSAI website under “Coordinator Only Resources,” after training. (All lessons are protected under the NSAI Reprints Policy.)
  • Song Feedback Sessions: Coordinators are trusted to facilitate the song feedback sessions following the NSAI Song Evaluation Guidelines. It is imperative the Local Chapter Coordinator acts as facilitator in feedback sessions and not an expert.
  • Local Chapter Coordinators may organize additional opportunities for their members such as: local writer’s nights, showcases, co-writing sessions, reviewal of NSAI webcasts, holiday parties, etc.
